“My name is Mia Wojcik, and I am an 8th-grade student at Horizon West Middle School in Windermere, Florida.
For the past year, I have been volunteering with an organization called ENGin, which is a nonprofit organization that pairs Ukrainian youth with English-speaking volunteers for free online conversation practice and cross-cultural connection. I was paired with a 12-year-old girl named Liz, who had to leave Ukraine because of the war and now lives in Poland. We have become great friends and we meet on Zoom every week. Learning more about Liz and forming a friendship with her has inspired me to want to do more to help other Ukrainians who have been affected by the war.
So, I reached out to the Ukrainian Association of Florida to see how I could help. I decided to start this Book Drive to collect books for Ukrainian children in hopes that it will help them to feel comfort, help them to learn English, and let them know that we support them and we are happy to have them here in Florida!”
